This crazy week is the start of a busy summer for the Falco Tech students. Yesterday, several students and Mr. Yantes went out to nearby Jackson Milton High School for their year-end review event. It was an opportunity to show students, parents, and teachers what FIRST is all about. Admittedly, we were out there hoping that we could get them to start their own FIRST team. Today, we went to our school's Board of Education meeting and we talked about our robotics season and also showed off what our robot can do! Everyone who attended the meeting really enjoyed our presence.
Tonight some students went to the STEM Spring Exhibition for the 7th grade students in the STEM program at our Middle School. The STEM students had many different set-ups showing what they did throughout their school year. It was very interesting for all, not just our students, to go see what these STEM students are learning at such a young age. We are also glad to see our school push STEM more and more. It all started with the FRC team just 4 years ago. Now we have 4 FLL teams and counting and the school has started a successful STEM program for students to join.
Today we spent the good part of the morning showing the public what FIRST is about at the University of Akron FIRST Round-up, with the hope of generating more interest in the FIRST programs in the Akron area. The Round-up had FRC teams, FTC teams, and also FLL teams. Not only did we bring several students and mentors, but we also brought some of our FLL students from the Middle School. All the members who went had a ton of fun getting a chance to meet other teams in NE Ohio, and we also enjoyed a pizza party after!
Though we are not at St. Louis right now, we did have a ton of fun tonight at our out reach! We shot some frisbee's and drove the robot. We saw many smiling faces from the children who attended! We were so excited to be able to have the opportunity to show the kids all about what we do!
It's that time again!! 21 of our students are heading to Pittsburgh March 14, 15 and 16th for compitition. We will be leaving Fitch Thursday and Friday at 5:30am to deal with the traffic. Saturday we will be leaving at 6:30am. Each night we should be home around 10pm. The Bosters are suppling lunch for the Team on Saturday.
